Astringent Again
3rd Nov, 2025
I've been dying to try those light-roasted beans from Goa, but today was hectic and I didn't want to rush it. So I stuck with my usual dark roast.
But I did experiment with something—I heated the water to 96 °C, which is what Aeropress officially recommends.
And here were my other measurements:
- Coffee : water - 16g to 266ml
- Grind size - 4
- Agitation - 15 seconds
- Brew time - 60 seconds
The cup came out a bit astringent and too bitter, definitely over-extracted. Not my thing at all!
Turns out the Aeropress recommended temperature just doesn't work for me. I'm definitely a 80 °C person.
However, this was still a useful experiment. It confirmed that Aeropress recommendations are just a starting point. They give you a framework, but you've gotta play around and figure out what actually works for your taste.
Everyone's palette is different, and that's the fun part!
